Electric Aggregation
What is Electric Aggregation
Electric Aggregation means Chardon's residents have voted to allow the City to contract for an electric generation supplier on their behalf. Under governmental aggregation programs, local governments bring their citizens together to gain group buying power for the purchase of competitively priced electricity from a retail electric generation supplier certified by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.

Current Supplier and Rate
The City’s electric aggregation program is managed through our membership with the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) by NextEra Energy, and the agreement currently establishes a fixed rate of 9.399 cents/kwh for six months. This rate is effective for the January 2026 through May 2026 meter reads, and there is no early termination fee if you choose to exit NOPEC's programs.
Customers are welcome to compare their electric supply options using the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio’s Apples to Apples Tool at energychoice.ohio.gov/applestoapples.aspx, and to review other NOPEC-exclusive electric supply options, including 12- and 24-Month Fixed Rate plans, at nopec.org/checkrates.

Power Outages
In the event of power outages caused by extreme weather or other unforeseen incidents, the Illuminating Company mobilizes its crews and can request support from other power companies to help restore power. Main power lines are prioritized, and outages at individual residences will be handled once primary power infrastructure and immediate hazards have been addressed.
Contact Information
In the event of a power outage, the Illuminating Company's service number is 1-888-544-4877.
The Illuminating Company has sole responsibility for electric infrastructure, and the City has no ability to direct their repair efforts.
